Kanpur Institute of Technology (KIT) was established in 2004 by a team of IIT alumni. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). It is affiliated with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow (Formerly UP Technical University); Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur; and Board of Technical Education (BTE), Lucknow. KIT is a member of The Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE).
KIT has its own skill development cell which organises collaborative training activities such as seminars and workshops, industrial training, guest lectures, etc. There are many industrial tours which are organised by KIT in all the academic sessions. KIT also has a tie-up with the renowned industry leaders such as HP, HCL, Wipro, CETPA, IBM, KOTAK Life Insurance, etc. for in house or off-campus technical training programmes.
The college also conducts partially sponsored summer & winter training courses for the students. The KIT lush green campus spreads over 25 acres and is accessible from major hub points of Kanpur.

The 2023 placement statistics are yet to be released. Earlier, 190 students were placed during 2022 placements, whereas, in 2021 the number of students placed stood at 195. The lowest package for 2021 and 2022 was the same. Further, the highest package offered during 2022 placements was INR 10 LPA and in 2021 the highest package stood at INR 40 LPA.
